Google announced the November 2023 reviews update on November 8, 2023 and marked it complete on the Search Status Dashboard on December 7, after 29 days. Search Engine Land counted it as the eighth confirmed reviews update since the first product reviews update in April 2021, and it turned out to be the final one: Google said the reviews system would now be improved "at a regular and ongoing pace" and that it would no longer post reviews updates on the dashboard.
By late 2023 the reviews system had outgrown its product-only origins. It evaluated review content on any reviewable topic, including services and businesses, destinations, and media such as games and movies, and it operated in eleven languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Russian, Dutch, Portuguese and Polish. Reading this update's impact was complicated at the time because the November 2023 core update was rolling out simultaneously until November 28, so a site that moved in mid-November could have been affected by either.
The practical consequence of the switch to continuous changes: review-content rankings can now shift at any time, with no announcement to anchor a diagnosis against. Google's underlying guidance did not change, and Search Engine Land's completion coverage made the new reality plain: this was the last reviews update anyone would be able to point to on a calendar.
