Google announced the November 2023 reviews update on 8th Nov 2023. It marked it complete on the Search Status Dashboard on 7th Dec, after 29 days.
Search Engine Land counted it as the eighth confirmed reviews update since the first product reviews update in April 2021. It turned out to be the final one.
Google said the reviews system would now be improved "at a regular and ongoing pace". It would no longer post reviews updates on the dashboard.
By late 2023 the reviews system had outgrown its product-only origins.
It judged review content on any topic that can be reviewed. That includes services and businesses, destinations, and media such as games and movies.
It operated in eleven languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Russian, Dutch, Portuguese and Polish.
Reading this update's impact was hard at the time. The November 2023 core update was rolling out at the same time until 28th Nov.
So a site that moved in mid-November could have been affected by either.
What the switch to ongoing changes means: review-content rankings can now shift at any time. There is no dated update to pin a diagnosis on.
Google's own guidance did not change. Search Engine Land's completion coverage made the new reality plain.
This was the last reviews update anyone would be able to point to on a calendar.
