Reddit's search beat has two halves that coverage keeps merging. One is Reddit's own search, classic search plus Reddit Answers.

The other is Reddit's visibility in Google, where it is among the most exposed large sites on the web.

The numbers here come from Reddit's SEC-filed shareholder letters and from studies we have verified. Reddit's own sites block automated reading, so the filings are the primary channel.

Strand one: organic visibility

Reddit first admitted core-update exposure in its Q4 2024 letter. The March 2026 core update showed why.

Reddit's Q4 2024 letter described "volatility with Google Search triggered by a periodic algorithm change", primarily affecting logged-out users. That was its first admission of core-update exposure.

In the March 2026 core update reddit.com lost 64.2 SISTRIX Visibility Index points in Amsive's analysis of 2,076 domains. It rebounded in the following weeks.

Read that figure for what it is: Amsive's analysis of SISTRIX data, measuring keyword visibility, not traffic.

AI answers add a second channel. A causal study found AI Overviews raised Reddit engagement and AI Mode erased the gain, per our entry.

Strand two: the traffic mix

Roughly half Google, half direct, per Reddit's CEO. AI chatbots are "not a major traffic driver today".

Steve Huffman put Reddit's traffic at roughly half Google, half direct on the Q3 2025 earnings call. He added that AI chatbots are "not a major traffic driver today".

The Q2 2026 letter showed the exposure. Revenue was $804.9 million, up 61%, yet the shares fell about 11% after hours.

The cause was one sentence about "choppy" Google referrals. Our entry has the letter.

Logged-out daily uniques, the search-exposed cohort, were up 27% that quarter. The letter carried no search-user figure for the first time in six quarters.

Strand three: the data licence

A roughly $60-million-a-year deal with Google, under public renegotiation since July 2026.

Reddit licenses its data to Google for training and grounding, in a deal reported at roughly $60 million a year. It entered public renegotiation in July 2026, per WSJ reporting carried by CNBC.

Reddit has separately sued Perplexity and the scraping supply chain behind it. Those cases are on our AI search lawsuits tracker.
