How it works
The Punctuation Checker reads your text and flags punctuation issues (commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, hyphens, and end punctuation), explains each issue in plain English, and returns a corrected version you can copy. It is powered by a large language model, so it understands context rather than matching a fixed dictionary or rule list.
This tool focuses on punctuation marks. For misspellings use the Spell Checker; for grammar issues like comma splices and run-on sentences use the Proofreader.
Honest framing. AI-generated corrections are a strong first pass, but always re-read the result, especially for names, technical terms, and intentional stylistic choices. You stay in control: the corrected text is fully editable before you copy it.
Plan caps. Free visitors check up to 2,000 characters per submission; paid plans handle more. Each check also uses part of your shared daily AI token budget, shown by the quota chip.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check punctuation with this tool?
Paste your text and click Check Punctuation. The tool flags punctuation problems, missing or misplaced commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, hyphens, and end punctuation, explains each one, and returns a corrected version you can copy.
Is this punctuation checker free?
Yes, free with no signup. Free visitors can check up to 2,000 characters at a time; signed-in paid plans handle longer passages. Each check also draws from a shared daily AI allowance shown by the quota chip.
What punctuation does it check?
Commas, apostrophes and possessives, quotation marks, hyphens and dashes, colons and semicolons, and end punctuation. It will not force optional style choices such as the Oxford comma; it respects whichever consistent style you use.
Does it fix comma splices and run-on sentences?
Those are grammar issues rather than pure punctuation, so they belong in the Proofreader, which covers grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and style together. This tool stays focused on punctuation marks themselves.
Does it handle British and American punctuation?
Yes. It auto-detects the English variant and applies its conventions (for example, quotation-mark and period placement differs between US and UK style), without flagging valid choices in the detected variant.
Will it change my wording?
Only the punctuation. It leaves your words and meaning intact and adjusts marks where needed. The corrected text is fully editable before you copy it.
How much text can I check at once?
The per-check limit depends on your plan: Free 2,000, Bronze 4,000, Silver 6,000, Gold 9,000, and Platinum 12,000 characters. The live counter under the box turns amber as you approach the limit.
Is my text stored?
A copy is kept briefly so you can reopen recent checks from your browser and via share links; rows expire automatically after 30 days. Your text is not used for anything else.
