Proofreader

Catch grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and style issues in one pass, with a corrected draft to copy.

How it works

The Proofreader reads your text and flags grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and style issues, explains each issue in plain English, and returns a corrected version you can copy. It is powered by a large language model, so it understands context rather than matching a fixed dictionary or rule list.

Want a narrower pass? Use the Spell Checker for spelling only or the Punctuation Checker for punctuation only.

Honest framing. AI-generated corrections are a strong first pass, but always re-read the result, especially for names, technical terms, and intentional stylistic choices. You stay in control: the corrected text is fully editable before you copy it.

Plan caps. Free visitors check up to 2,000 characters per submission; paid plans handle more. Each check also uses part of your shared daily AI token budget, shown by the quota chip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I proofread my text with this tool?

Paste your text and click Proofread. The tool reviews it for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and style, lists each issue with a plain-English explanation and a before → after fix, gives an overall score, and returns a fully corrected version you can copy.

Is this proofreader free?

Yes, free with no signup. Free visitors can proofread up to 2,000 characters at a time; signed-in paid plans handle longer passages. Each pass also uses part of a shared daily AI allowance shown by the quota chip.

What does the proofreader check?

Five areas at once: grammar (agreement, tense, run-ons), spelling, punctuation, clarity (wordiness, ambiguity), and light style. It deliberately ignores acceptable choices like Oxford commas or starting a sentence with a conjunction.

How is this different from a grammar checker?

This Proofreader gives you a fast, focused fix-it pass plus a corrected draft. If you want a deeper, category-by-category audit with separate grammar, tone, and readability scores and per-issue regeneration, use the AI Grammar Checker.

Will it change my meaning or voice?

No. It corrects errors and suggests clearer phrasing while preserving your meaning and voice. The corrected text is fully editable, so you can accept what helps and undo anything you would rather keep.

Does it work for UK and US English?

Yes. It auto-detects the English variant from your writing and does not flag spellings or conventions that are valid in that variant. Keep your usage consistent and it follows suit.

How much text can I proofread at once?

The per-pass limit depends on your plan: Free 2,000, Bronze 4,000, Silver 6,000, Gold 9,000, and Platinum 12,000 characters. For very long documents, proofread a section at a time.

Is my text stored?

A copy is kept briefly so you can reopen recent checks from your browser and via share links; rows expire automatically after 30 days. Your text is not used for anything else.
