Engagement Rate Calculator

Turn likes, comments, and shares into an engagement rate by followers or by reach.

Enter a post's likes, comments, and shares plus your follower count to get its engagement rate, by followers, or by reach in Advanced options.

How it works

Engagement rate is the share of your audience that interacted with a post. The classic formula divides interactions by followers; the modern variant divides by reach (how many actually saw it), which platforms increasingly prefer because feeds no longer show posts to all followers.

Formula: ER = (Likes + Comments + Shares/Saves) / Followers x 100 · ER by reach = Interactions / Reach x 100.

Advanced options add the by-reach engagement rate, the fairer measure of how the people who actually saw the post responded.

Everything runs in your browser. Your numbers are never sent to a server, and there is no signup or limit. Your last entries are remembered locally so the calculator is ready next time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good engagement rate?

By followers: 1-3% is solid on Instagram (under 1% is common for very large accounts; micro-accounts often exceed 5%), TikTok typically runs higher (3-9%), X/Twitter and Facebook lower (0.5-1.5%), LinkedIn around 2-5% for personal posts. Judge against accounts your size on the same platform, not a universal number.

Should I calculate engagement by followers or by reach?

By followers is the classic, comparable-across-accounts metric and what most brands quote. By reach answers "did the people who SAW it care?" and is fairer when the algorithm limits distribution. Report followers-based publicly; use reach-based (Advanced options) to evaluate content quality.

Which interactions count?

Likes and comments always; shares and saves where the platform surfaces them (saves are a strong signal on Instagram). Some marketers include clicks; if you do, be consistent so you compare like with like over time.

Why did my engagement rate drop as I grew?

Almost every account's ER falls as followers rise: a larger audience is less tightly matched to your content, and feeds show posts to a smaller share of it. That is why comparing your ER with much bigger or smaller accounts misleads.
