Twitter Engagement Rate Calculator

Turn likes, reposts, replies, and bookmarks into an X (Twitter) engagement rate by followers or impressions, with X ranges.

Enter a post's likes, reposts, replies, bookmarks, and quote posts plus your follower count to get its X engagement rate and see how it compares with accounts your size. Advanced options add the by-impressions rate that X Analytics itself reports.

How it works

Engagement rate is the share of your audience that interacted with a post. On X (formerly Twitter) the interactions that count are likes, reposts, replies, bookmarks, and quote posts. Bookmarks and replies are the ones the timeline weighs most, so include them from the post analytics whenever you can.

Formulas. ER by followers = (Likes + Reposts + Replies + Bookmarks + Quotes) / Followers x 100. ER by impressions = Interactions / Impressions x 100. That is the rate X Analytics shows, though X also counts profile clicks and link clicks as engagements. Interactions per 1,000 followers = Interactions / Followers x 1,000.

The verdict line compares your by-followers rate with the range that is typical for accounts of your size on X. That is roughly 2% to 6% under 1k followers, 0.5% to 2% from 1k to 10k, 0.2% to 0.7% from 10k to 100k, and 0.05% to 0.2% above 100k. These are rough ranges drawn from public industry studies, not X data. Brand accounts sit at the bottom of each band and creators at the top. Rates fall as accounts grow, which is why the comparison is by size. X rates are lower than Instagram's because most impressions come from the For You feed rather than followers, so the by-impressions rate is the fairer measure of a single post.

Advanced options add the post's impressions, for the by-impressions engagement rate, and the reposts share of interactions.

What you will see

Engagement rate (by followers)
Interactions divided by your follower count. The classic, comparable-across-accounts number brands quote.
Versus accounts your size
Whether that rate sits above, within, or below the typical range for your follower tier.
Total interactions
Likes + reposts + replies + bookmarks + quote posts for the post.
Interactions per 1,000 followers
The same signal as a count, handy when comparing posts over time.
Engagement rate (by impressions)
Interactions divided by impressions from the post analytics. Fairer for a single post, since most X impressions come from non-followers.
Reposts as a share of interactions
How much of the engagement was people spreading the post, the interaction that grows reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good engagement rate on X (Twitter)?

It depends on account size, because rates fall as audiences grow. Typical by-followers ranges are roughly 2-6% for accounts under 1k followers, 0.5-2% from 1k to 10k, 0.2-0.7% from 10k to 100k, and 0.05-0.2% above 100k; anything above the range for your size is strong. These are approximate ranges from public industry studies (brand accounts sit low in each band, creators high), so judge against accounts your size in your niche rather than a single universal number. By impressions, 1% to 3% is a common range for a single post.

Which interactions count on X?

Likes, reposts, replies, bookmarks, and quote posts are the ones you can see on the post. X Analytics also counts profile clicks, link clicks, media views, and follows as engagements. That is why its engagement rate can read higher than this one. Enter the five visible counts here for a rate you can compare across accounts and posts.

Should I calculate engagement by followers or by impressions?

By followers is the comparable public number brands ask for. By impressions (Advanced options) answers "did the people who actually saw it react?" and is fairer on X, where the For You feed shows most posts to people who do not follow you. Use both: by followers to compare accounts, by impressions to compare posts.

Where do I find impressions and bookmarks?

Open the post on X and tap the analytics icon, the small bar chart, under it. Or open it from X Analytics. Impressions, engagements, bookmarks, profile visits, and link clicks are all listed there for your own posts. Likes, reposts, replies, and quotes are visible on the post itself for anyone.

How do I calculate the engagement rate for my whole account?

Average the interactions of your last 10 to 20 posts and enter that average as the likes / reposts / replies / bookmarks, with your current follower count. Brands vetting creators usually look at this averaged rate rather than a single best post, and they exclude the outlier that went viral.

Why is my X engagement rate lower than on Instagram?

Because X counts differently and distributes differently. Most X impressions come from the For You feed and search rather than from followers. And likes are a smaller share of reactions on X, where people reply and repost instead. A 1% by-followers rate that would be weak on Instagram is average on X for a mid-sized account; the verdict here uses X ranges, not Instagram ones.

Does this tool connect to my X account?

No. Nothing connects to X and no handle is looked up; you type the numbers from the post or from X Analytics and the maths runs in your browser. X does not allow tools to read account data without a paid API, so this is the reliable way to get an exact rate.

Is the Twitter engagement rate calculator free?

Yes, free with no signup, running entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded; your last entries are remembered locally so the calculator is ready next time.
