eBay image sizes (2026)

UseSize (px)Aspect ratioNote
Listing photo (square, zoom) 1600 x 1600 1:1 eBay recommends 1,600 px on the longest side; at 1,600 or more the listing gets the zoom feature. Square fills the gallery tile without cropping.
Listing photo (4:3) 1600 x 1200 4:3 A landscape listing photo at the recommended 1,600 px; the gallery thumbnail is square, so leave room around the item.
Listing photo (portrait) 1200 x 1600 3:4 A tall listing photo; the square gallery thumbnail crops the top and bottom, so keep the item centred.
Listing photo (minimum size) 500 x 500 1:1 eBay rejects photos under 500 px on the longest side. This preset is the floor; use 1,600 for zoom.
Store billboard (banner) 1200 x 270 40:9 The wide banner at the top of an eBay Store; phones show a centre crop, so keep the logo and text in the middle.
Store logo 300 x 300 1:1 The square logo beside the store name; shown small, so a simple mark reads best.
Profile picture 400 x 400 1:1 The photo on your eBay profile and feedback pages; cropped to a circle in many places.

eBay accepts JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, and HEIC photos up to 12 MB, at least 500 px on the longest side and 1,600 px for zoom, with no borders, text, or watermarks on the main photo. Sizes follow eBay's picture policy as summarised by the 2026 spec guides; confirm in the listing form before uploading, since eBay revises them.

How it works

Pick the eBay size you are making, drop in one or more images, and each is resized to that exact size in your browser. Crop to fill (the default) scales the image to cover the frame and trims the overflow, with a Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right; Fit with padding keeps the whole image and fills the rest with a colour or transparency; Stretch forces the size.

Output defaults to JPG at 90% quality, right for photos; choose PNG for logos and graphics with text so the edges stay crisp (and for transparent padding). Each result shows the original and new dimensions and file size, and downloads with the preset and size in the file name. A result is never larger than the original file.

Everything runs locally. Your images are never uploaded, there is no signup, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata. Animated GIFs export as a single still frame. To shrink a finished file further without changing its size, run it through the Image Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

What size should eBay listing photos be?

At least 500 pixels on the longest side, and 1,600 or more to unlock the zoom feature that lets buyers magnify details; up to 24 photos per listing (12 on some categories), JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, or HEIC under 12 MB, with no borders, text, or watermarks on the main photo. The square 1600 x 1600 preset makes the safest file.

What is the eBay store billboard size?

1200 x 270 pixels, a 40:9 strip shown at the top of an eBay Store on desktop; phones show a centre crop, so keep the logo and text in the middle third. The store logo beside it is 300 x 300. Both presets are in the menu.

Why does my photo look cropped in eBay search results?

The gallery thumbnail is square. A 4:3 or portrait photo is cropped to fit that square in search results and the app, so the item can lose its top, bottom, or sides. Use a square main photo, or keep the item centred with breathing room on the long sides so the crop stays harmless.

Does eBay require a white background?

Not strictly, but eBay recommends a white or light plain background for the main photo and many categories (and the Promoted Listings guidelines) work better with one. Use Fit with padding with a white padding colour to place a smaller product image on a white square without cropping it.

What is the difference between crop to fill and fit with padding?

Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the whole target size and trims whatever overflows, so nothing is padded but the edges may be cut; use the Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right instead of the centre. Fit with padding scales the image to fit inside the frame and fills the rest with a colour (or transparency for PNG and WebP), so nothing is cut. Stretch forces the exact size and distorts the image.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. All resizing and cropping happens locally in your browser, so your images never leave your device. There is no signup and no watermark, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata such as GPS location before you post.

Can I resize a whole listing's photos at once?

Yes. Drop in as many as you like and each is resized with the same preset and settings, with its own preview and download button, and Download all saves every result. Files are named with the preset and size, like jacket-listing-1600-1600x1600.jpg, and a result is never larger than the original file.

Do better photos help an eBay listing rank?

eBay's search (Cassini) ranks on relevance and on how buyers respond to a listing, and clicks and conversions depend heavily on the main photo. Sharp, correctly sized, uncluttered photos raise both. Pair them with a keyword-rich 80-character title from the eBay Keyword Tool.
