Syllables are estimated per word from English vowel-group patterns (with rules like dropping a silent final "e") and summed live. Put text on multiple lines, a haiku, lyrics, a poem, and each line shows its own syllable count, the quickest way to check a 5-7-5 or a song's meter.
Everything runs locally. Your text is never uploaded, and there is no signup. The estimate is for English; expect the occasional off-by-one on unusual words.

How does the syllable counter work?
Each word is scanned for groups of vowel sounds, with adjustments such as dropping a silent final "e". The per-word counts are summed live as you type. It is the same estimator our Readability Checker uses for Flesch scores, so numbers agree across our tools.
How accurate is it?
It is a heuristic, and English spelling is famously irregular, so unusual words, names, and borrowed words can be off by one syllable. For everyday text it tracks dictionary syllabification closely, and totals over a passage average out well.
Can I check a haiku with it?
Yes, that is exactly what the per-line breakdown is for. Write each line of your haiku on its own line and check for the 5-7-5 pattern; the count updates live as you edit.
Does it work for song lyrics and poetry?
Yes. The per-line view shows the syllable count of every line, which is how you check meter and match lines to a melody. Note that sung syllables sometimes stretch or merge, so treat the counts as the spoken baseline.
Does it support languages other than English?
No, honestly. The estimator is built for English vowel patterns; other languages follow different rules and would count incorrectly, so we do not claim support for them.
