Enter the video topic (or paste the title) and get a ranked hashtag set: the three worth putting in the description first, since YouTube shows those above the title, then long-tail tags, all inside the 15-hashtag rule.

How it works
Hashtags on YouTube have two real jobs. The first three hashtags in a description show above the video title as clickable links. And every hashtag makes the video reachable from that tag's own page and from search. They are not a reach hack, and YouTube enforces a hard rule: a video with more than 15 hashtags gets all of them ignored. The generator returns a ranked set built around that. First come the three description picks: the exact topic tag, the niche or community tag, and the series or format tag. Then specific long-tail tags. Then at most three broad ones.
Use them like this. Put your top three in the description, in order, since those are the visible ones. Keep the total well under 15. Skip engagement-bait tags entirely; the generator never suggests them. For Shorts topics the set includes #Shorts among the leaders. Hashtags are just one discovery surface, so pair them with real keyword work. The YouTube Keyword Generator finds the search phrases with volume, and the YouTube Tag Generator writes the separate tags field.
Free, no signup. Each generation draws a small amount from your shared daily AI allowance, shown by the quota chip. Paid plans get a larger daily allowance for heavier sessions.

Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on YouTube?
A handful, and never more than 15. YouTube's documented rule is that a video with more than 15 hashtags has all of them ignored. In practice three to six do the work. Only the first three description hashtags show above the title, and the rest add reach only through hashtag pages and search. The generator ranks the set so the three description picks come first.
Where do hashtags go on a YouTube video?
In the description, anywhere in it, or in the title. The first three description hashtags become the links shown above the title. Title hashtags are clickable in place, but they use up title characters and look noisy. The common pattern is a clean title plus three hashtags at the end of the description. Comments do not count.
Do hashtags actually get views on YouTube?
A little. A hashtag puts the video on that tag's page and helps YouTube place borderline content. A recognisable niche tag above the title signals relevance to the right viewers. But search, suggested videos, and browse bring far more traffic than hashtags. Treat hashtags as cheap labelling done properly in a minute, not a growth lever. The real levers are the title, thumbnail, and keywords.
Do I still need #Shorts on a Short?
No. YouTube detects a Short from the format itself, vertical and up to 3 minutes, and has not required the tag for years. It remains harmless and mildly useful as a label people recognise. That is why the generator includes it for Shorts topics, among the first three.
What is the difference between hashtags and tags?
They are different fields. Hashtags start with # and are public, in the description or title. "Tags" are the hidden keyword field in the upload form, a leftover that YouTube says plays a minimal role beyond catching common misspellings. Write hashtags here. Write the tags field with the YouTube Tag Generator. Check any video's existing tags with the Tag Extractor.
Can hashtags contain spaces or punctuation?
No. A hashtag runs until the first space or punctuation mark, so multi-word tags are written together. CamelCase (#HomeWorkout) keeps them readable without changing how they match, because hashtags are case-insensitive. Every generated tag follows those rules.
Should I use trending hashtags on my video?
Only when the video is about the trend. YouTube's hashtag policies treat unrelated tags as misleading metadata, which can get hashtags removed or worse. Viewers who arrive from a trend page and leave at once hurt the video's signals. The generator sticks to tags the video can honestly claim.
Is the YouTube hashtag generator free?
Yes, free with no signup. Each batch draws from a shared daily AI allowance shown by the quota chip. Signing in on a paid Keywords Everywhere plan raises it. Every plan has a cap, and higher tiers get a higher one.
