Resize and crop images to the exact X (formerly Twitter) sizes, the 1500 x 500 header with a safe-area preview, the profile picture, 16:9, square, and 4:5 post images, link card images, and ad sizes, right in your browser. Batch-friendly, and nothing is uploaded.
Header safe-area preview
Keep text, logos, and faces inside the centre band and away from the bottom-left corner, where the profile picture sits on every client. Change Crop focus above to move the image under the overlay; the first image is previewed, and every result gets the same crop.
X (Twitter) image sizes (2026)
| Use | Size (px) | Aspect ratio | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Header (banner) | 1500 x 500 | 3:1 | The wide image at the top of a profile. The profile picture overlaps the bottom left and narrow phones crop the top and bottom, so keep text and faces in the centre band; the preview shows it. |
| Profile picture | 800 x 800 | 1:1 | Shown as a 400 x 400 circle (minimum 200 x 200); 800 stays sharp on retina screens. Keep the subject centred, the corners are cropped away. |
| Post image (landscape) | 1200 x 675 | 16:9 | The classic single-image post; shown full width in the timeline without cropping. |
| Post image (square) | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 | Safe everywhere, taller than 16:9 in the feed. |
| Post image (portrait) | 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 | The tallest shape the feed shows without cropping (guides disagree on whether every client shows the full height; square is the safe fallback). |
| Two-image post (each) | 700 x 800 | 7:8 | When two images share a post, each is shown in a 7:8 slot side by side; three or four images use square-ish tiles. |
| Link card image (summary_large_image) | 1200 x 628 | 1.91:1 | The preview image for a shared link, set as twitter:image or og:image on your page; under 5 MB. |
| Link card image (summary) | 800 x 800 | 1:1 | The small square card variant; minimum 144 x 144. |
| Ad image (square) | 1200 x 1200 | 1:1 | Image ads at 1:1; also used for website cards at 800 x 800. |
| Ad image (landscape) | 1200 x 628 | 1.91:1 | Image ads and website cards at 1.91:1 (website cards accept 800 x 418). |
| Ad image (portrait) | 1440 x 1800 | 4:5 | The portrait ad size; 9:16 and 2:3 (1080 x 1620) are also accepted. |
| Video | 1920 x 1080, 1080 x 1080, or 1080 x 1920 | 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 | MP4 or MOV; up to 2 minutes 20 seconds and 512 MB on standard accounts, longer uploads on Premium (limits vary by tier). Not resized here. |
| GIF | up to 1280 x 1080 | any | Up to 15 MB on the web and 5 MB in the apps; exported here as a single still frame. |
Images: JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF up to 5 MB each, up to four per post; profile pictures under 2 MB; headers under 5 MB. Sizes follow the 2026 spec guides and the published X ad specs; X revises them, so confirm in the composer before a campaign. For the X brand assets themselves, use the brand toolkit on x.com rather than a resized copy.
How it works
Pick the X size you are making, drop in one or more images, and each is resized to that exact size in your browser. Crop to fill (the default) scales the image to cover the frame and trims the overflow, with a Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right; Fit with padding keeps the whole image and fills the rest with a colour or transparency; Stretch forces the size.
With the Header preset, the safe-area preview draws your resized header with the layout X puts on top of it: the profile picture circle in the bottom-left corner and the top and bottom bands that narrow phones crop, so you can move the crop until the important part sits in the centre band. Output defaults to JPG at 90% quality, right for photos; choose PNG for logos and graphics with text so the edges stay crisp (and for transparent padding). Each result shows the original and new dimensions and file size, and downloads with the preset and size in the file name. A result is never larger than the original file.
Everything runs locally. Your images are never uploaded, there is no signup, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata. Animated GIFs export as a single still frame. For a link preview, set the resized 1200 x 628 file as the twitter:image or og:image on your page and check it with the Twitter Card Validator; the Open Graph Generator writes the tags.
What you will see
- X size
- The preset that sets the exact output width and height; the table above lists what each one is for.
- Fit
- How an image whose shape differs from the preset is handled: crop to fill, fit with padding, or stretch.
- Crop focus
- Which part of the image survives a crop-to-fill: centre, top, bottom, left, or right.
- Padding colour
- The fill used around a padded image: white, black, a custom colour, or transparent for PNG and WebP.
- Header safe-area preview
- Your resized header under the profile-picture circle and the phone crop bands; the centre 1500 x 380 band is the part every client shows.
- Output format and Quality
- JPG (photos), PNG (lossless, no quality slider; logos and text), WebP, or keep the original format. Quality applies to JPG and WebP.
- Result cards
- One per image with a preview, the before and after dimensions and file sizes, and a Download button; Download all saves them all.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Twitter (X) header?
1500 x 500 pixels, a 3:1 strip, under 5 MB as JPG, PNG, or GIF. The profile picture overlaps the bottom-left corner of the header, and on narrow phones X crops the top and bottom edges, so the centre band of about 1500 x 380 is the part that always shows. The Header preset makes the file and the safe-area preview shows both the avatar overlap and the crop bands over your image.
What size is an X profile picture?
X shows the profile picture as a 400 x 400 circle and accepts a minimum of 200 x 200 and a file under 2 MB. The preset outputs 800 x 800 so the picture stays sharp on high-density screens; X scales it down. Keep the face or logo centred, because the circle crops the corners.
What is the best image size for an X post?
1200 x 675 (16:9) for a single landscape image, 1080 x 1080 for a square, and 1080 x 1350 (4:5) for the tallest shape the feed shows. A post can carry up to four images at 5 MB each (JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF up to 15 MB); with two images each is shown in a 7:8 slot side by side, which the Two-image post preset makes.
What size should the link preview (Twitter Card) image be?
1200 x 628 (1.91:1) for the large card (summary_large_image) and a square of at least 144 x 144 for the small summary card, under 5 MB. The image comes from the twitter:image or og:image tag on the linked page, so resize it here, upload it to your site, and check the tags with the Twitter Card Validator.
What are the X ad image sizes?
Image ads take 1200 x 1200 (1:1) and 1200 x 628 (1.91:1); portrait ads 1440 x 1800 (4:5); website cards 800 x 418 or 800 x 800; and X also accepts 16:9, 9:16, and 2:3 (1080 x 1620) for some formats. Video ads run 15 seconds recommended and 2 minutes 20 seconds at most. The Twitter Ads Cost Calculator page carries the full spec table.
What is the difference between crop to fill and fit with padding?
Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the whole target size and trims whatever overflows, so nothing is padded but the edges may be cut; use the Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right instead of the centre. Fit with padding scales the image to fit inside the frame and fills the rest with a colour (or transparency for PNG and WebP), so nothing is cut. Stretch forces the exact size and distorts the image.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. All resizing and cropping happens locally in your browser, so your images never leave your device. There is no signup and no watermark, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata such as GPS location before you post.
Can I resize several images at once?
Yes. Drop in as many as you like and each is resized with the same preset and settings, with its own preview and download button, and Download all saves every result. Files are named with the preset and size, like photo-header-1500x500.jpg, and a result is never larger than the original file.
