Pinterest image sizes (2026)

UseSize (px)Aspect ratioNote
Standard pin 1000 x 1500 2:3 The size Pinterest recommends; shows in full in the feed and takes the most screen.
Square pin 1000 x 1000 1:1 Accepted everywhere, shorter than a 2:3 pin in the feed.
Long pin 1000 x 2100 1:2.1 The tallest a pin can be before the feed crops it; the bottom shows only on the pin page.
Video pin cover or frame 1080 x 1920 9:16 Full-screen vertical; 2:3 and 1:1 video pins are accepted too. Keep text out of the edges.
Carousel card 1000 x 1500 2:3 Every card in a carousel shares one ratio (2:3 or 1:1), so resize the whole set together.
Profile photo 400 x 400 1:1 Shown as a circle at 165 x 165; upload a larger square and keep the face or logo centred.
Profile cover 1600 x 900 16:9 The wide banner at the top of a profile; Pinterest asks for 16:9 and at least 800 x 450.
Board cover 600 x 600 1:1 Shown as a square tile on your profile; a square image with the subject centred crops cleanly.

Pinterest recommends a 2:3 pin at 1000 x 1500 and crops anything taller than 1:2.1 in the feed. Images can be PNG or JPEG up to 20 MB (32 MB in the app); video pins run 4 seconds to 15 minutes in MP4, MOV, or M4V up to 2 GB. Pinterest re-encodes every upload, so 1000 wide at JPG quality 85 to 95 is the sweet spot.

How it works

Pick the Pinterest size you are making, drop in one or more images, and each is resized to that exact size in your browser. Crop to fill (the default) scales the image to cover the frame and trims the overflow, with a Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right; Fit with padding keeps the whole image and pads the rest in a colour of your choice, handy for turning a landscape photo into a 2:3 pin without cutting it; Stretch forces the size without cropping or padding. Custom size accepts any width and height.

Output defaults to JPG at 90% quality, right for photos; choose PNG for graphics with text so the lettering stays crisp. Each result shows the original and new dimensions and file size, and downloads with the preset and size in the filename.

Everything runs locally. Your images are never uploaded, there is no signup, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata. Animated GIFs export as a single still frame. After resizing, write the pin copy with the Pinterest Pin Description Generator.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a Pinterest pin be?

1000 x 1500 pixels, a 2:3 aspect ratio, which is what Pinterest recommends. A 2:3 pin shows in full in the feed and takes up more screen than a square, and anything taller than a 1:2.1 ratio (1000 x 2100) is cropped in the feed and only shows in full on the pin page. Pick the Standard pin preset, drop your images in, and download.

What size are Pinterest video pins?

Pinterest accepts vertical 2:3, 9:16, and 4:5 video, plus square 1:1; 1080 x 1920 (9:16) fills the screen in the app. Videos run 4 seconds to 15 minutes, MP4, MOV, or M4V, up to 2 GB. This tool sizes the still cover or a frame you export from your editor; keep titles out of the top and bottom edges where the interface sits.

Are long pins still worth making?

Sometimes, for step-by-step or infographic pins. Pinterest shows the top of a long pin in the feed and crops the rest until someone opens it, so the first 2:3 of the image must work on its own. Keep long pins under 1000 x 2100 (1:2.1); anything taller is cut in the feed.

What size is a Pinterest profile picture and cover?

The profile photo is shown as a circle at 165 x 165 pixels, so upload a larger square (the preset outputs 400 x 400) with the face or logo centred. The profile cover is a wide 16:9 banner; Pinterest asks for at least 800 x 450, and the preset outputs 1600 x 900 so it stays sharp on large screens.

What is the difference between crop to fill and fit with padding?

Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the whole target size and trims whatever overflows, so nothing is padded but the edges may be cut; use the Crop focus menu to keep the top, bottom, left, or right instead of the centre. Fit with padding keeps the entire image visible and fills the remaining space with a colour (or leaves it transparent for PNG and WebP). Stretch forces the exact size and can distort.

Does Pinterest compress images, and what file size is allowed?

Pinterest accepts PNG and JPEG images up to 20 MB (32 MB in the app) and re-encodes what you upload, so a 1000-pixel-wide JPG at quality 85 to 95 is the sweet spot: sharp in the feed and quick to upload. If a file is still large, the Image Compressor shrinks it without visible loss.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. All resizing and cropping happens locally in your browser, so your images never leave your device. There is no signup and no watermark, and re-encoding strips EXIF metadata such as GPS location before you post.

Can I resize several images at once?

Yes. Drop in as many as you like and each is resized with the same preset and settings, with its own preview and download button, and Download all saves every result. Files are named with the preset and size, like kitchen-pin-1000x1500.jpg, so a carousel set stays in order.
