ROI Calculator

Enter what you invested and earned to see your return on investment and net profit.

Enter how much you invested and how much you got back to see your ROI and net profit.

How it works

ROI (return on investment) shows how much you gained relative to what you spent, as a percentage. Enter the amount returned (revenue or value gained) and the amount invested (your cost). The calculator finds your net profit and divides it by the cost.

Formula: Net profit = Returned - Invested; ROI = (Net profit / Invested) x 100.

Advanced options let you enter a holding period to also get your annualized ROI, so you can compare investments that ran for different lengths of time.

Everything runs in your browser. Your numbers are never sent to a server, and there is no signup or limit. Your last entries are remembered locally so the calculator is ready next time.

Frequently asked questions

What is ROI?

Return on investment is the profit you make as a percentage of what you spent. A positive ROI means you gained more than you put in; a negative ROI means you lost money on the investment.

How do I calculate ROI?

Subtract the amount invested from the amount returned to get net profit, divide by the amount invested, and multiply by 100. For example, turning $1,000 into $1,500 is a $500 profit, so ROI = $500 / $1,000 x 100 = 50%.

What is a good ROI?

It depends entirely on the channel, time frame, and risk. A campaign ROI that beats your other options and clears your costs is good; the same number can be excellent for one investment and poor for another. Always compare like with like.

What is the difference between ROI and ROAS?

ROI measures profit against total cost and is usually a percentage. ROAS (return on ad spend) measures revenue against ad spend only and is usually a ratio. ROAS ignores costs beyond the ad spend, so ROI is the stricter profitability measure.
