Paraphrasing Tool

Reword any text in eight modes, from Fluency to Academic, with a changed-words highlight and readability score.

Mode (pick one)

How it works

The Paraphrasing Tool takes your text and returns one reworded version in the mode you pick. A large language model does the work, so it understands meaning rather than swapping synonyms. It reshapes sentences and changes word choice while keeping what you said.

What you can adjust:

  • Mode: one of eight (Standard, Fluency, Formal, Academic, Simple, Creative, Shorten, Expand). Each changes wording and structure, not just single words.
  • Keep these words (optional): a comma-separated list of terms, such as brand names and jargon, that stay exactly as written.

What you get back. A fully editable result, a changed-words highlight against your original, a % reworded figure, and a readability reading (Flesch reading ease) before and after. That shows how the reading level moved.

A note on detection. AI detectors and academic integrity systems can recognise AI output however it was made. This tool is for clearer phrasing, non-native editing, tightening or expanding drafts and cutting repetition. It is not for hiding where text came from.

Plan caps. Free visitors paraphrase up to 1,500 characters per submission. Paid plans handle more, up to 12,000. Each run also uses part of your shared daily AI token budget, shown by the quota chip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I paraphrase text with this tool?

Paste a sentence or several paragraphs into the box. Pick a mode: Standard, Fluency, Formal, Academic, Simple, Creative, Shorten or Expand. Then click Paraphrase. You get one reworded version that keeps your meaning. The changed words are highlighted against your input, and a readability score shows how the reading level moved.

Is this paraphrasing tool free?

Yes. All eight modes are free with no signup. Free visitors can paraphrase up to 1,500 characters at a time. Signed-in paid plans can paste longer passages, up to 12,000 characters on the top tier. Every run also draws from a shared daily AI allowance. The quota chip on the page shows how much is left.

Will a paraphrasing tool help me beat plagiarism or AI detection?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Plagiarism checkers, AI detectors and academic integrity systems can recognise AI output however it was made. This tool is for honest uses: clearer phrasing, editing as a non-native writer, tightening or expanding drafts, cutting repetition and changing tone. It is not for hiding where text came from or passing off someone else's work as your own.

What is the difference between the paraphrase modes?

  • Standard rewords while staying close to the original tone.
  • Fluency smooths awkward or non-native phrasing.
  • Formal shifts to a professional, business tone.
  • Academic uses a scholarly tone and precise wording.
  • Simple uses plainer words and shorter sentences. It usually raises the readability score.
  • Creative reaches for fresher, more varied wording.
  • Shorten condenses the text and removes repetition.
  • Expand adds relevant detail and explanation.

How is paraphrasing different from rewriting or summarising?

Paraphrasing says the same thing in different words. It keeps roughly the same length and all the key points. Summarising drops detail on purpose to make the text shorter. Sentence rewriting usually works one sentence at a time, for tone. This tool is built for whole paragraphs. For one-sentence tone shifts try the Sentence Rephraser. To condense a long article try the AI Summarizer.

Does paraphrasing change the meaning of my text?

It should not. Every mode is told to keep your meaning and key facts, and to avoid inventing new claims. Shorten and Expand change the length, not the substance. You can also list words to keep, such as brand names and technical terms, and they stay exactly as written. Always re-read the result. An AI can drift now and then, which is why the output stays fully editable.

What does the "% reworded" figure mean?

It is the share of words in the result that differ from your original, measured word by word. Tick Highlight changes to see exactly which words changed. A higher figure means a more thorough rewrite. A very low figure usually means your text was already tight, or the mode made only light edits.

How much text can I paraphrase at once?

The limit per paraphrase depends on your plan: Free 1,500, Bronze 3,000, Silver 5,000, Gold 8,000 and Platinum 12,000 characters. The live counter under the box turns amber as you near your limit. Each run also uses part of your shared daily AI token budget, which the quota chip shows.
